Job Description
1. Project Planning & Execution
Execution Supervision: Oversee day-to-day site activities related to trenching, duct installation, cable pulling, laying, jointing, and backfilling.
Method Statements: Prepare or review work method statements, risk assessments, and installation procedures as per project specifications.
Work Scheduling: Develop or support the site execution schedule in coordination with planning teams, contractors, and clients.
Coordination: Liaise with civil, electrical, and safety teams to ensure seamless underground cable installation.
2. Technical Oversight
Drawing Review: Interpret cable route layouts, trench cross-sections, and termination/jointing diagrams.
Cable Installation Supervision: Ensure cables are laid as per standards (minimum bending radius, separation distance, depth).
Jointing & Termination: Supervise high-voltage or medium-voltage cable jointing and termination works by certified jointers.
Inspection & Testing: Conduct pre- and post-installation checks, including insulation resistance, sheath testing, and hi-pot tests.
3. Quality Assurance & Safety
Standards Compliance: Ensure work is executed in accordance with IEC, IEEE, IS, or utility-specific standards.
Material Quality Checks: Verify quality and conformity of cables, ducts, joints, and accessories on delivery and at installation.
Site Safety: Enforce site safety rules for excavation, confined space entry, live cable proximity, and PPE usage.
Inspection Reports: Prepare daily site inspection reports and coordinate quality audits.
4. Coordination & Communication
Client Interface: Support progress reporting and technical discussions with the client or consultant.
Utility Coordination: Coordinate with local authorities, utilities, or telecom providers to avoid underground service clashes.
Subcontractor Management: Monitor performance of subcontractors for civil works, cable laying, and jointing tasks.
5. Documentation & Reporting
Progress Reports: Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly work progress reports including photos and milestone tracking.
As-Built Documentation: Ensure red-marked drawings and as-built documents are accurately maintained.
Material Tracking: Monitor usage and availability of materials and accessories at site.
Permit & Clearance Support: Assist in obtaining necessary work permits, NOCs, and road reinstatement permissions.
6. Testing & Commissioning Support
Pre-Commissioning Checks: Oversee cable route continuity, megger testing, and voltage withstand tests before energization.
Vendor Coordination: Coordinate with OEMs or testing agencies for final commissioning and handover documentation.
Job Requirement:
Ø Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical / Civil / Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Ø At least 2 to 5 years in engineering, with a focus on underground cabling or transmission and distribution projects related to TNB or private stake holders
Ø Experience in handling Low Voltage (LV) to High Voltage (HV) installations, including underground cable works and substation installations
Ø Training in safety standards, quality assurance, and project management methodologies is beneficial.
Ø Strong understanding of electrical systems, including cable sizing, power system studies, and substation layouts.
Ø Proficiency in AutoCAD and project management tools like Microsoft Project or Primavera.
Ø Ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
Ø Effective interpersonal skills to liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
Ø Strong analytical skills to address and resolve technical challenges.
